Our Story
Bonners Ferry Pupuseria LLC was founded November 15th, 2019 by Elva Zepeda and James Carr after moving from San Francisco to Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Pupusas, the national dish of El Salvador, quickly became the heart of their new restaurant — paired with American comfort food and fine cigars.
What started as a dream turned into a community favorite. Every chair, table, and piece of décor was carefully chosen by Elva, often found in local thrift shops, bringing warmth and authenticity into the space.
Why Pupusas?
During there Honeymoon in El Salvador, Jay and Elva realized they wanted to share Elva’s cultural food with their new hometown. Pupusas are more than just food — they’re tradition, celebration, and comfort, all wrapped in a thick handmade corn tortilla.
Bonners Ferry Pupuseria continues that tradition, serving both authentic Salvadoran pupusas and classic American Diner Favorites.
Family & Community
Jay and Elva have built more than a restaurant — they’ve built relationships. From supporting local grocery stores & organizations to sharing meals with travelers, friends & family. Their Pupuseria (a place where Pupusas are made) has become a welcoming hub in Bonners Ferry.
